Yemenis in Cairo: Between Hardship and Hope

For decades, Cairo has served as a place of refuge and opportunity for Yemenis
seeking stability beyond the hardships of home. Since the scalation of the current
conflict in Yemen in 2015, Egypt’s capital has become one of the largest centers of
the Yemeni diaspora, with an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 Yemenis now living in
the city. Families, students, entrepreneurs, and patients have come to Cairo
searching for safety, education, medical treatment, and the chance to rebuild their
lives amid the ongoing crisis at home
