Masarat Foundation is pleased to announce Yemen: Journey to the Gates of Arabia, a week-long cultural event that will take place in Madrid in partnership with Casa Árabe and the Embassy of the Republic of Yemen in Spain, and with the collaboration of the Centro de Estudios Árabes Contemporáneos (CEARC), Hamad Bin Khalifa University, the Yemeni-Hispanic Association, and the art platform CIRAT.

The event will bring together leading scholars, artists, photographers, diplomats, members of the Yemeni diaspora, and the general public to celebrate Yemen’s rich cultural heritage and promote a deeper understanding of a country too often viewed solely through the lens of war and humanitarian crisis.

With its breathtaking landscapes, millennia-old history, remarkable architecture, and vibrant artistic traditions, Yemen is home to one of the world’s most remarkable cultural legacies and occupies a unique place in Arab and Islamic civilization. Yet, despite its significance, much of its heritage remains unfamiliar to audiences in Spain and across Europe. Yemen: Journey to the Gates of Arabia seeks to bridge that gap through exhibitions, lectures, panel discussions, photography, music, literature, and gastronomy. Beyond showcasing Yemen’s history and culture, the event will serve as a platform for dialogue and exchange, fostering mutual understanding, strengthening the bonds of friendship between Yemen and Spain, and encouraging future cultural, academic, and institutional cooperation.

The event will also raise awareness of Yemen’s ongoing humanitarian crisis while highlighting Masarat Foundation’s mission to empower women and girls through education, access to dignified livelihoods, cultural preservation, and humanitarian assistance. Through its programs in internally displaced persons’ camps in southern Yemen and its support for Yemeni patients and families in Egypt, the Foundation is helping communities recover from the consequences of conflict while preserving the country’s cultural identity as a foundation for long-term resilience.

By bringing together culture, education, and humanitarian awareness, Yemen: Journey to the Gates of Arabia reflects Masarat Foundation’s commitment to building bridges between Yemen and Spain and inspiring partnerships that contribute to a more resilient, inclusive, and hopeful future for the Yemeni people.
